ChatGPT Enterprise, Copilot or Gemini: which AI assistant suits a fashion company?

For most fashion companies the best general AI assistant is the one that fits their existing office suite and data: Microsoft 365 Copilot for Microsoft-based companies, Gemini for Google Workspace users, and ChatGPT Enterprise where a standalone assistant with broad model capabilities is preferred. Model quality differences change quickly; data protection terms, connectors, admin controls and total cost are more durable decision criteria.

What is the difference between ChatGPT Enterprise, Copilot and Gemini?

All three provide chat-based assistants that can draft, summarise, analyse and search, but they are packaged differently. Microsoft 365 Copilot is an add-on to Microsoft 365 that works inside Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Teams and searches work data through connectors. Gemini is built into Google Workspace apps such as Gmail, Docs and Sheets. ChatGPT Enterprise is a standalone workspace that connects to other systems through apps and connectors.

Which criteria matter most for a fashion company?

1. Office suite fit: employees adopt tools that sit where they already work. An assistant inside the email and spreadsheet tools people use daily lowers the adoption barrier.
2. Data protection and location: confirm in the contract, not only on marketing pages, that business data is not used for training and where it is stored and processed.
3. Access to company knowledge: the value rises sharply when the assistant can search approved product documents, policies, line sheets and shared drives while respecting existing permissions.
4. Admin and security controls: single sign-on, user provisioning, audit logs, retention settings and the ability to enable features per app or group.
5. Image and file handling: fashion teams work with images, PDFs and large spreadsheets; test these with real files.
6. Cost and seat model: per-user licences add up quickly, so decide which roles need a seat.

What do the vendors say about data protection?

On their own pages, all three vendors make similar core commitments, which narrows the difference to implementation details. Microsoft states that Microsoft 365 Copilot customer data is not used to train foundation models and describes its EU Data Boundary as a geographical boundary for storing and processing customer data and personal data. OpenAI says it does not train on data from ChatGPT business plans or the API by default, and since February 2025 has offered European data residency for new ChatGPT Enterprise workspaces, with in-region inference added for eligible customers in January 2026. Google says Workspace data is not reviewed by humans or used for generative AI model training outside the customer's domain without permission, that Gemini only retrieves data the user already has permission to access, and that customers can control whether data is stored and processed in the EU or the US.

Are fashion companies already rolling out enterprise assistants?

Yes, at scale in some cases. PVH announced in January 2026 that it would give employees across the company ChatGPT Enterprise, with planned uses in product and design, planning and supply chain, and marketing and retail. According to OpenAI's announcement, PVH cited security, privacy and trust, saying OpenAI met its data protection and governance standards.

Fashion-specific tasks are worth including in any comparison. Ask each tool to turn a technical spec sheet into consumer-friendly copy in several languages, to compare two supplier price lists, to summarise sell-through by category from an exported spreadsheet, and to describe a garment from a flat-lay image. Differences in how each assistant handles images, tables and multilingual output often matter more to fashion teams than benchmark scores published by vendors.

Governance should be set up before the first licences are assigned: an acceptable use policy, a list of data classes that may not be entered, retention settings and an owner for the admin console. Training should be part of the rollout plan rather than an afterthought, with short role-based sessions before people receive access.

Should a company use more than one assistant?

Some do, for example giving design and content teams a standalone assistant with strong image features while the rest of the company uses the suite-integrated tool. The trade-off is more contracts, more training and a higher risk of confusion about which data belongs where. For most mid-sized fashion businesses, one primary assistant with clear rules is easier to govern, with exceptions approved for specific roles.

Run a structured trial with 20 to 50 users from different functions, using the same set of real tasks in each candidate tool: summarising a sales report, drafting product copy from a spec sheet, comparing supplier documents, answering a policy question from internal files. Score output quality, time saved, ease of use and admin effort. Combine the result with a legal review of contract terms and a full-cost calculation, then commit for a limited term so the choice can be revisited as the market changes.
