What is ASOS Design?
ASOS Design is the flagship in-house label of ASOS, one of Europe's largest online fashion retailers. It offers trend-led and essential clothing, footwear and accessories for women and men and sits alongside other ASOS-owned brands such as 4505, ARRANGE and Topshop, as well as hundreds of partner brands.
History
ASOS was founded in London in 2000 by Nick Robertson, Quentin Griffiths and others, and introduced its own womenswear label in 2004. The own-brand offer has since grown into a broad portfolio under the ASOS Design name. In 2021 ASOS acquired the Topshop, Topman, Miss Selfridge and HIIT brands from the collapsed Arcadia Group. José Antonio Ramos Calamonte has been chief executive since 2022.
Products and positioning
ASOS Design aims to be the go-to label for twenty-something shoppers who want fashion at accessible prices. Key features include:
- Womenswear and menswear from basics to occasion wear
- Extended size and fit ranges
- Shoes, bags and accessories
- Frequent drops reflecting current trends
Business model and distribution
ASOS Design is sold exclusively through ASOS's own website and apps, which according to the company serve about 17 million active customers in more than 150 markets. Products are designed by around 20 in-house teams and sourced from the UK, Türkiye, China, India and Bangladesh. In the 2025 financial year own brands made up 40% of GMV and partner brands 60%. Fulfilment runs through centres in Barnsley, Berlin and Dallas.
ASOS Design and technology
ASOS launched a Test and React model in its 2023 financial year, which can take product from design to site in as little as three weeks so the company can test demand before committing to larger volumes. By the end of FY25 it accounted for more than 20% of own-brand sales. ASOS has also used computer vision for its Style Match visual search tool and digital body models in its See My Fit feature.
Why it matters
As ASOS works through a turnaround focused on margins and inventory, ASOS Design is central to its strategy: own brands carry higher margins than partner brands and allow faster, data-led product decisions.
