What is BlueMan?
BlueMan is a beachwear label from Rio de Janeiro, founded in 1974 by David Azulay, who turned everyday Rio beach life into a business. The brand dates back to the years before Brazil had a national beachwear industry and is regarded as one of its pioneers.
History
David Azulay died in 2009. Creative direction is now led by his daughter Sharon Azulay, with art direction by his nephew Thomàz. After a break from the runway following the summer 2016 season, BlueMan returned at Rio Fashion Week 2026 with a retrospective of Brazilian beach fashion celebrating more than five decades of history.
Products and positioning
The brand is known for relaxed, confident swimwear: cortininha and side-tie bikinis, deep-necked swimsuits and asa-delta cuts, often finished with rhinestones, fringe or macramé. Ruffled dresses, shirts and wide Bermuda shorts extend the offer into resort wear.
Why it matters
BlueMan helped define the image of the Brazilian bikini and remains a reference for the country's beachwear identity.
