What is Amir Slama?
Amir Slama is the eponymous beachwear label of the Brazilian designer Amir Slama. Before building his own label he was associated with the swimwear brand Rosa Cha. After leaving Rosa Cha he returned to fashion work within weeks, designing collections for C&A and for Italian retail chains before developing his own brand.
Products and positioning
The label focuses on swimwear and beachwear for both women and men. Its collections have included:
- Men's beachwear with straight lines and geometric shapes
- A men's fitness collection inspired by personal training
- Women's collections such as Carnaval of love, mixing references from Brigitte Bardot to 1930s and 1940s street carnival, revue theatre and the 1970s
The designer has also created a swimwear collection for the brand FiveBlu.
Distribution
The brand has operated stores in Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro and has worked on national and international expansion. In April 2016 it returned to the Sao Paulo Fashion Week calendar with a show styled by Yan Acioli.
Why it matters
Amir Slama is one of the designer names closely linked to the rise of Brazilian beachwear as a fashion category, and his label continues that tradition for both womenswear and menswear.
