What is Bottega Veneta?
Bottega Veneta is an Italian luxury brand best known for logo-free leather goods made with the intrecciato weave. It belongs to Kering. British designer Louise Trotter has been creative director since January 2025, and Romain Spitzer became chief executive on 1 September 2026, succeeding Bartolomeo Rongone, who left to run Moncler.
History
Michele Taddei and Renzo Zengiaro founded the company in Vicenza in 1966. The first US store opened in New York in 1972, and a 1978 campaign coined the line When your own initials are enough. Gucci Group bought the brand in 2001, and Tomas Maier led it until 2018. Daniel Lee and then Matthieu Blazy followed, before Trotter took over. In 2013 the atelier moved to an 18th-century villa in Montebello Vicentino.
Products and positioning
Bottega Veneta stands for discreet, craft-led luxury without visible logos. Woven leather handbags such as the Andiamo are central, alongside shoes, ready-to-wear for women and men, and accessories.
Business model and distribution
The brand sells primarily through its own stores and e-commerce, with selected department stores. Its main atelier is near Vicenza, and its headquarters is in Milan. According to Modaes, Bottega Veneta's revenue was 1.706 billion euros in 2025, roughly flat, making it one of the more resilient houses in Kering.
Bottega Veneta and technology
In 2021 the brand closed its social media accounts and launched Issued by Bottega, a digital journal, an unusual choice in luxury marketing.
Its creative directors have each kept craftsmanship at the centre while changing the mood of the brand, from Tomas Maier's understated approach to the bolder designs of Daniel Lee and Matthieu Blazy.
Why it matters
Bottega Veneta is a benchmark for quiet luxury and for building desirability through product and craft rather than logos. Its steady results have made it an important stabiliser for Kering during the Gucci turnaround.
