Fred, also called Fred Joaillier, is a French fine jewellery house with its headquarters in Paris. Its collections include the Force 10 bracelet, the Pretty Woman necklace and the Monsieur Fred ranges, and it has also sold eyewear and leather goods.
History
Fred Samuel, born in Buenos Aires in 1908, opened his first shop on Rue Royale in Paris in 1936. After the Second World War his sons Henri and Jean expanded the business from the 1960s with boutiques in France, Monaco and the United States. The Monaco boutique opened in 1976, and in the 1990s the company opened its first Tokyo boutique, in 1994. LVMH acquired it in 1995. A first China boutique opened in Shanghai in 2017.
Products and positioning
LVMH's page for the house highlights the 1966 creation of the Force 10 bracelet and the 2016 launch of the Chance Infinie collection, and says the house has operated for nearly 90 years. The Force 10 design, with its nautical cable motif, remains the most recognisable product.
