What is Boucheron?
Boucheron is a French high jewellery house based at 26 Place Vendome in Paris. It makes jewellery and watches, and its fragrances are produced and distributed under licence by Interparfums, a deal in place since 2011.
History
Frederic Boucheron opened his first store in the Galerie de Valois at the Palais-Royal in 1858. The house won a gold medal at the 1867 Exposition Universelle and a Grand Prix for outstanding innovation at the 1889 World's Fair. In 1893 it became the first jeweller to move to Place Vendome, and it opened in Moscow that year and in London in 1903. The company stayed family-run after the founder's death in 1902, was sold to Schweizerhall in 1994, acquired by Gucci in 2000 and owned by PPR from 2004, before the group became Kering.
Business model and distribution
Wikipedia lists 34 boutiques worldwide, sales through about 100 certified retailers and an e-commerce website launched in 2007. The brand therefore combines its own stores with a selected wholesale network and online sales.
Boucheron and technology
In 2023 Boucheron released the Quatre 5D Memory ring in a project with IRCAM and SPhotonix. It contains a capsule with a recording of ocean waves, stored using 5D optical storage. The house had earlier worked with Vertu on high-jewellery mobile phones, and it developed the B.I.R.D. system for rating diamonds.
Why it matters
Boucheron is one of the historic Place Vendome houses and part of Kering's jewellery portfolio. Its experiments with data storage in jewellery are a rare documented example of technology entering high jewellery. Current executive appointments were not confirmed for 2026 and are not listed.
