What is Halti?
Halti is a Finnish outdoor brand founded in 1976 by Juhani "Jussi" Hyokyvaara, who had worked as a salesperson in a Helsinki outdoor store and saw demand for lighter, more functional gear.
History
From 1976 to 1982 the brand introduced an aluminium frame backpack, connectable sleeping bags that could form a family-sized bag, and nylon tents. Later milestones listed by the company include:
- 1988: Thermotech, a lightweight fibre-filled insulation for sleeping bags
- 1995: DrymaxX, a breathable and waterproof membrane
- 2006: Antarctica Pro, an expedition tent
- 2015: a carbon fibre sled made in Finland
- 2022: the Kallio by Halti urban collection
In 2023 it launched Halti 2nd Round, a circular service for buying, selling, repairing or donating used products. The Weather-X collection followed in 2024, and in 2025 the brand relaunched with a new visual identity.
Why it matters
Halti is one of the longer-established Nordic outdoor names, with a documented record of product development and a recent move into resale and repair.
