What is IZOD?
IZOD is a midrange American apparel brand focused on dressy-casual clothing and men's sportswear. Its range spans polo shirts, shirts, suits, neckties, outerwear and fragrances, alongside footwear and accessories.
History
The brand was created by Vincent dePaul Draddy of the David Crystal company, who bought the rights to the name from Arthur James "Jack" Izod, a retiring London tailor. A.J. Izod of London was introduced in the United States in 1937. After parent company Crystal Brands went bankrupt in 1994, PVH owned IZOD from 1995 to 2021. Authentic Brands Group acquired it in August 2021.
Distribution
IZOD operates largely through licensing. Centric Brands handles most apparel, while other licensees cover denim, footwear, tailored clothing, eyewear, home and leather goods. Main retail partners include Kohl's, J.C. Penney, Belk and Amazon, and the official website reopened for orders in June 2024.
Why it matters
IZOD is a clear example of the brand-licensing model in American apparel, with a heritage name managed centrally while a network of partners produces and distributes product across many categories. Its sports marketing, including naming rights to the IZOD Center and the IndyCar series, helped keep it visible.
