What is Junk de Luxe?
Junk de Luxe is a Danish menswear brand rooted in vintage denim. It combines vintage-inspired jeans and retro knitwear with a minimalist Scandinavian aesthetic.
History
The business started in 1986 as a shop in Denmark importing vintage Levi's jeans, and developed into a full brand in 1992. At the end of 2012 it was acquired from its founder by the Danish company Minimum, owned by Peder Tang and Jacob Fisker, which also ran the Minimum and Minus labels. Following the purchase the team was reorganised, with Kim Juul, who had launched the menswear label Vito, joining as sales manager, and the brand was presented at Bread & Butter in Berlin.
Products and positioning
The core offer is vintage-style denim and retro knits for men.
Distribution
Junk de Luxe built an international retail network that included department stores such as Isetan in Tokyo and Selfridges in London.
Why it matters
Junk de Luxe traces a path common in Scandinavian fashion, from vintage importer to own label, and later into a larger domestic fashion company that could add sourcing scale.
