What is Manas?
Manas is a family-owned Italian shoe company based in Montecosaro, in the province of Macerata in the Marche region, one of Italy's main footwear districts. It was founded in 1956 by Giuseppe Sagripanti.
History
Manas began as a small workshop and grew into a significant footwear business, crediting quality, creativity and business ethics for that growth. The company has been run by members of the Sagripanti family, including Cleto Sagripanti. It signed its first licence with the handbag company Coccinelle, another family-owned business manufacturing in Italy.
Manas is one of three footwear brands alongside Lea Foscati and Khriò that were brought together under a single company, Alma, when Manas merged with Alfiere, the firm run by another branch of the Sagripanti family.
Products and positioning
The brand specialises in women's footwear, with unisex, sportswear-inspired styles and accessories also in its range. Most products are made in Italy, and the brand sits in the bridge segment of the market between premium and designer price points.
Why it matters
Manas illustrates how family footwear businesses in the Marche district consolidate brands and use licensing to extend into adjacent categories while keeping manufacturing in Italy.
