What is Proviz?
Proviz makes high-visibility and reflective clothing and accessories for cycling, running and outdoor activities. The brand was started by two brothers who commuted to their corporate jobs by bike in London and saw the limitations of available safety gear.
History
Founded in 2008 by Anthony and Rupert Langly-Smith, Proviz first launched its Nightrider and Classic collections. Its Triviz electroluminescent light pack won a Red Dot Design Award. Key later launches include:
- REFLECT360 (2014), its best selling range
- Switch and Pixelite (2015)
- Sportive (2018)
- LED360 bike lights (2019)
Products and positioning
REFLECT360 uses fully reflective fabric that appears grey in daylight and highly reflective under lights. The range has expanded into running and hiking, and Proviz Bespoke produces custom items for other brands and organisations.
Distribution
In the UK the brand has been distributed through Moore Large since 2012. It runs its own websites in markets including the United States, Australia, Germany and Scandinavia, and works with distributors such as Relags in mainland Europe and Bike Parts Wholesale in Australia.
Why it matters
Proviz turned safety wear into a design led product category, showing how a technical material innovation can anchor a direct to consumer and wholesale brand.
