What is T-Michael?
T-Michael is the eponymous tailoring label of designer T-Michael, born Michael Tetteh Nartey in Ghana. Inspired by his father's approach to dressing and by traditional Ghanaian textiles, he studied and worked in London before settling in Bergen, Norway, where he moved in 1989.
History
After three years of training in bespoke tailoring, T-Michael sourced fabrics and trimmings in London and opened his own studio in Bergen on his 30th birthday. He later co-founded Norwegian Rain with Alexander Hell, a brand of high-tech raincoats described as "technical garments disguised as tailoring".
Products and positioning
The T-Michael label offers contemporary tailoring, including bespoke suits and ready-to-wear, as well as bags designed by T-Michael. The brand follows a slow-fashion philosophy focused on quality and durability.
Distribution
The collection is presented in the Norwegian Rain and T-Michael flagship store in Bergen, alongside Norwegian Rain's outerwear.
Why it matters
T-Michael is one of the most distinctive voices in Norwegian menswear, combining Ghanaian and British tailoring influences with the practical demands of Bergen's climate. Through Norwegian Rain, his approach has also shaped a new category of tailored technical outerwear.
