What is Tabbah?
Tabbah is a bespoke jewellery house with roots in Beirut and its headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland. It was founded in 1862 by Joseph Tabbah and remains a family business, run by Nabil and Nagib Tabbah. Nagib, a great-great-grandson of the founder, is chief executive and chief designer.
History
The Tabbah family's origins go back to the 17th century, when it printed patterned silk. After establishing itself as a jeweller in Beirut, the family moved to Monaco in 1974. Nagib Tabbah graduated from the Gemological Institute of America in 1991, worked at the Swiss headquarters and returned to Beirut in 1997. A boutique on Allenby Street in Beirut opened in 2014.
The house made jewellery for the 2011 wedding of Albert II, Prince of Monaco, and Charlene Wittstock. The Infinite Cascade necklace, designed by Nagib Tabbah, combines 18k rose gold, 1,237 diamonds and six pear-shaped pearls. Earlier clients included Ginger Rogers, Shirley Bassey and Elton John.
Products and positioning
Tabbah focuses on one-off and bespoke high jewellery, alongside watchmaking. Its work sits firmly in the luxury segment, with pieces such as the Diamond Phoenix earrings showing its signature craftsmanship.
Distribution
Beyond Beirut, Tabbah is sold in Paris, Geneva and London, and through Saks Fifth Avenue in New York and Saks in Beverly Hills.
