What is Cavalera?
Cavalera is a Brazilian streetwear brand based in São Paulo that emerged more than three decades ago. Its rise was driven by skate culture and by the surname of Iggor Cavalera, former drummer of the metal band Sepultura, who was an early partner. Alberto Hiar is the brand's owner and creative director.
History
From the late 1990s to the mid-2010s Cavalera was regarded as one of the most important names in Brazilian street fashion, known for irreverent, rock-inspired prints. It became famous for staging fashion shows in unexpected places, including along the Tietê River, and returned to the runway in 2024.
Products and positioning
The core range includes T-shirts, sweatshirts, caps, jackets and tailored trousers, with the two-headed eagle as its best-known mark. The current offer is split into:
- A premium line of minimalist pieces in heavy imported fabrics, produced in small runs
- A commercial line with jeans, band-themed T-shirts and seasonal capsules
Distribution
Cavalera sells through a street store on Rua Fernão Dias in Pinheiros, São Paulo, and a rack at its barbershop in Vila Madalena, alongside online sales.
Why it matters
Cavalera helped define Brazilian streetwear and shows how a youth-culture label repositions itself with tailoring and limited production.
