What is Hope?
Hope is one of Brazil's established lingerie brands. It began in 1966 as an underwear factory in the Brás district of São Paulo and today sells lingerie, sportswear and comfortable urban clothing through a national franchise network.
History
The company was founded by Nissim Hara, an immigrant from Lebanon, together with a friend from the Jewish community; his brothers Elie and Henri later joined the partnership. Hope moved into retail in 2005, opening its first store in December of that year and building a franchise network from there.
Products and positioning
The business operates two brands:
- Hope Lingerie, the original underwear and lingerie line
- Hope Resort, covering fitness wear and beachwear
Production is concentrated in a manufacturing park in Maranguape, Ceará.
Distribution
Franchised stores take the largest share of production, followed by multibrand retailers and the brand's own e-commerce channel. The network counts around 320 stores across Brazil, and most new openings carry both brands.
Why it matters
Hope illustrates how a Brazilian manufacturer can turn into a vertically integrated retail brand, combining its own production with franchising, wholesale and online sales.
