What is Reusch?

Reusch is a sports brand that specialises in gloves. Its core products are goalkeeper gloves, winter and ski gloves, and related football and winter sports equipment, alongside sports apparel collections. The company is family-owned: the Weitzmann family has held full ownership since 2015.

History

The company dates to 1934, when Karl Reusch began developing gloves in the attic of his home in Metzingen, Germany. In 1973 Reusch developed what is described as the world's first goalkeeper glove, working with the goalkeeper Sepp Maier. The brand was the world market leader in sports gloves during the 1980s and 1990s, according to its Wikipedia entry.

Reusch moved its headquarters from Reutlingen, Germany to Bolzano, Italy on 1 June 2017, and converted to an Aktiengesellschaft (stock corporation) while remaining family-held in May 2017. Erich Weitzmann is listed as chief executive.

Products and positioning

Winter sports products made up about two thirds of revenue in 2017. In football, the brand continues to develop goalkeeper gloves; in 2025 it launched the Attrakt Fusion Carbon 3D glove, which has a 3D-printed punching zone.

Business model and distribution

Reusch sells through about 55 international partners in more than 50 countries. Ten European countries are supplied directly from headquarters, and the main markets are Italy, France and the German-speaking region. Since 2023 the company has held Speedo distribution rights in Italy and Austria, and in 2025 it opened a new logistics and production site in Vignate, Italy.

Why it matters

Reusch is one of the long-established specialists in a narrow product category and an example of a family-owned European sports brand that combines wholesale distribution with product innovation such as 3D-printed glove components.
