History
Rudolf Dassler and his brother Adi ran a shoe factory in Herzogenaurach from 1924. After they split in 1948, Rudolf founded his own company, first registered as Ruda and soon renamed Puma. Puma shoes appeared in famous moments of sport, from Pelé's contract in 1970 to the Suede worn by Tommie Smith and John Carlos at the 1968 Olympics. The company went public in 1986. In 2007 PPR, now Kering, acquired a stake and later took majority control before reducing its holding.
Ownership
In January 2026 Anta Sports agreed to buy a 29.06 per cent stake from Artémis, the investment company of the Pinault family, for about 1.5 billion euros, according to FashionUnited. Anta, which also owns brands such as Fila and Descente, said it had no current plans for a full takeover. Frasers Group later took a stake of nearly 6 per cent.
