History
Adi Dassler began making sports shoes in Herzogenaurach after the First World War, and the Gebrüder Dassler shoe factory was formed in 1924 with his brother Rudolf. Jesse Owens wore Dassler spikes at the 1936 Berlin Olympics. After the brothers split in 1948, Rudolf founded Puma and Adi registered the adidas name in 1949. The Trefoil logo was introduced for the 1972 Munich Olympics. The company went public in 1989, later owned Salomon (1997 to 2005) and Reebok (2006 to 2022), and ended its Yeezy partnership with Kanye West in 2022. Lionel Messi signed a lifetime deal with the brand in 2017.
