What is Riani?
Riani is a family owned womenswear brand founded in Schorndorf, Germany, in 1978 by Jürgen Buckenmaier. It sums up its approach as Italian lightness meets German values and promises fashion that fits perfectly at all times.
History
The brand's breakthrough product was the Bucki trouser, which sold more than 100,000 pairs. Martina Buckenmaier joined as chief executive in 2007, and the second generation, Mona Buckenmaier, works on new markets and digitalisation. For its 35th anniversary in 2013 Riani showed at Berlin Fashion Week for the first time.
Products and positioning
Riani offers comprehensive collections for every occasion, using materials some of which are made exclusively for the company. A majority of production still takes place at the Schorndorf headquarters, unusual for a German fashion brand of its size.
Distribution
Alongside wholesale, Riani has expanded its own retail. In 2017 it opened a store with Lodenfrey at the Schafflerhof in Munich, and in its 40th anniversary year it opened a flagship in North Rhine Westphalia and launched its first online shop. Further stores include Hamburg, Münster and Sylt.
