What is Strellson?
Strellson is a premium menswear brand that describes itself as designed in Switzerland. It is best known for suits, sports jackets, trousers and outerwear with a modern, urban look. The brand is the namesake of Strellson AG in Kreuzlingen, the company that trades as Holy Fashion Group.
History
In 1984 the entrepreneurs Uwe and Jochen Holy, previously owners of Hugo Boss, bought the Kreuzlingen coat maker Friedrich Straehl & Co. AG, founded in 1908, and turned it into Strellson AG. The company grew into the holding for the Holy family's fashion businesses. It took over Windsor in 2004, began trading as Holy Fashion Group from 2005, and gradually acquired JOOP!, taking a third of the shares in 2001 and full ownership in 2008. The Holy family still controls the group, with Dominik Holy as chairman.
Products and positioning
Strellson focuses on menswear, from tailoring to casual outerwear. Licensed categories have broadened the brand:
- Shoes and bags, licensed from 2007
- Eyewear, licensed from 2008
- Fragrances, from 2010, with a new fragrance launch reported for drugstore distribution
- An expanded luggage and bag range made by an existing licence partner
Business model and distribution
The brand sells through specialist and department store retailers, own monobrand stores and e-commerce. Historically it has had shops in Germany, Switzerland, Austria and several other European and international markets. Brand leadership changed recently, with Mats Birk succeeding Marino Edelmann as managing brand director according to the German trade press.
Why it matters
Strellson is one of the few Swiss based premium menswear brands with broad European distribution. As part of a multi brand group covering JOOP! and Windsor, it illustrates how mid sized fashion groups in the German speaking market combine shared infrastructure with clearly separated brand positions.
