What is Windsor?
Windsor is a premium fashion brand for women and men known for refined tailoring, high quality fabrics and understated elegance. The group that owns it describes it as having been synonymous with premium fashion for over 100 years. It belongs to Holy Fashion Group, based in Kreuzlingen, Switzerland.
History
The brand traces its origins to the menswear company Roos & Kahn, founded in Bielefeld in 1889 by Leo Roos and Isidor Kahn. In 1960 Günter Klasing took over the company and renamed it Windsor Kleiderwerk. In 1983 the brothers Jochen and Uwe Holy acquired Windsor, and in 2004 it came under Strellson AG, the holding that has traded as Holy Fashion Group since 2005. The group's womenswear outerwear activities were moved to Kreuzlingen in 2015.
Products and positioning
Windsor offers suits, jackets, coats, knitwear and trousers for men and a womenswear collection built around tailoring and versatile pieces. Recent collections have stressed lightweight, relaxed tailoring. The brand has used capsule collaborations to sharpen its luxury positioning:
- A unisex capsule with the Zurich hotel The Dolder Grand, launched in early 2024
- A first traditional folk wear capsule with the Munich label CocoVero in 2025
Business model and distribution
Windsor sells through premium retailers and department stores, its own stores in German speaking markets, and online. It opened its first own store in Frankfurt in 2019. The brand is pursuing exports, returned to Pitti Uomo in 2023, ran pop ups at Rinascente in Italy and Printemps in France, and entered the United States through the agency JAMCC. Anke Ratzsch, previously at JOOP!, became managing brand director, according to the German trade press.
Why it matters
Windsor is one of the oldest surviving names in German menswear manufacturing. Its repositioning towards international premium department stores shows how heritage tailoring brands from the German speaking market are trying to grow beyond their home region.
