What is UVR Berlin?
UVR Berlin, originally called UVR Connected ("You we are connected"), is one of Berlin's longest-standing fair fashion names. Founder Udo Aydt started the label in a squatted house in Kreuzberg in the early 1990s, and the brand has stood for sustainable fashion for more than 30 years.
Products and positioning
At its core is the own UVR label, made in Europe from ecologically valuable materials, with clothing for women and men. Its stores also carry other sustainable and functional brands, including Armedangels, Bellerose, Derbe, Vaude and Rains.
Distribution
In 2022 the Berlin flagship moved within Kreuzberg from Oranienstrasse 36 to Oranienstrasse 188, an 85 square metre space with a wall mural by artist Pia Aydt and a light installation. The company had also opened branches in Hamburg and Hannover, and Anna Schieber took over management in March 2022.
Why it matters
UVR predates the mainstream fair fashion movement by decades, making it a reference point for how independent German labels combined their own production with curated sustainable retail.
