What is VLONE?

VLONE is a streetwear label from the United States that grew out of the ASAP Mob collective. It presents itself as a style and culture as much as a clothing brand, built around a striking V logo.

History

The label was co-founded in late 2011 by Jabari Shelton, known as ASAP Bari, and Kamoni Chandler, known as ASAP K. Chandler later left and Shelton took over the brand. Its first collection debuted in 2014. A partnership with Nike followed in 2017 but was ended later that year. In October 2022 the brand announced that Shelton had been removed and no longer had authority to use or license the VLONE name.

Products and positioning

VLONE's core products are hoodies and T-shirts. Edison Chen of CLOT contributed design work. From 2020 the label produced artist merchandise with musicians including Juice Wrld, YoungBoy Never Broke Again, The Weeknd, Nav and Pop Smoke.

Why it matters

VLONE is a case study in how music collectives and limited drops can turn a logo into a recognisable streetwear brand, and how closely such brands depend on their founders' public profile.
