The group was founded by the brothers Peter, Stephen and Matt Hill, all former figures in Australian skateboarding. Matt Hill is the current chief executive.

History

The business began in 1985 as Hardcore, an importer of skateboard products that grew into a major skateboard distributor. The Hill brothers added the Die Hard clothing division in 1987. Over time the company moved from distribution into its own brands, and it relocated to Port Melbourne in 2010.

Products and positioning

Globe makes shoes, apparel, skateboards and accessories. Skateboard decks and trucks are produced at the company's own factory in Shenzhen. Later additions to the group include an electric skateboard, MilkBar bikes and the swimwear brand It's Now Cool.

Distribution

Globe International organises its business into proprietary, licensed and distributed brands, with offices in Melbourne, Los Angeles, Newport Beach, San Diego, Hossegor in France and Shenzhen. In 2003 it set up its European headquarters in Hossegor, on the French surf coast. From there it sells directly in several major European markets, including France, the United Kingdom and Germany, while other European markets are served by third-party distributors. The company also runs a retail store in Hossegor.
