What is Portmans?

Portmans is an Australian fashion brand selling womenswear through its own store network and online. It is one of the specialty apparel chains that historically sat within Just Group.

History

Just Group acquired Portmans in May 2002, adding it to a portfolio that included Just Jeans, Jay Jays, Jacqui E, Dotti and Peter Alexander. Premier Investments took a controlling interest in Just Group in 2008.

In October 2024 Myer agreed to acquire Premier's apparel division, issuing new shares to Premier in return. After shareholder approval, Portmans and its sister apparel brands became part of Myer in January 2025, while Peter Alexander and Smiggle remained with Premier Investments.

Why it matters

The move of Portmans into Myer brought a department store operator and a group of specialty chains under one roof, a notable consolidation in Australian fashion retail. It places Portmans alongside Just Jeans and other former Just Group labels inside a single listed retail group.
