What is Monica Vinader?

Monica Vinader is a British jewellery brand that sells necklaces, pendants, earrings, rings and friendship bracelets. The company describes its jewellery as demi-fine, priced between fine and fashion jewellery. Monica Vinader is the creative director.

History

Vinader began making bespoke pieces for private clients while living in Argentina in 2002, then moved to the UK and launched the company in 2007, with her sister Gabriela Vinader as co-founder. The company was profitable from 2009 and won Retail Jeweller's Jewellery Brand of the Year award that year. Beringea invested in 2010, which funded the first store on South Molton Street in London, and a 2013 funding round involving Beringea and the Clark Group raised about 2.5 million pounds. Bridgepoint Development Capital later acquired a majority stake.

Business model and distribution

The brand sells online and through its own stores, including South Molton Street and Canary Wharf in London. The sources reviewed do not detail its wholesale partners. Wikipedia reports that the brand's sales were above 100 million pounds in 2023, but this figure comes from an encyclopaedic summary rather than a company filing and should be treated with caution.

Monica Vinader and technology

Since 2022 the company has offered a Product Passport that uses blockchain to trace the origin of its products. It has also used 100% recycled silver and gold since 2020.

Why it matters

Monica Vinader is a leading example of a British direct to consumer jewellery brand that moved from online sales to selective retail and private equity backing. It won the Positive Luxury Responsible Luxury Business of the Year award in 2025, according to Wikipedia.
